VisitMaine tells us that there are Oktoberfests in Maine that offer more than just local beer. Many, in fact, are family friendly events, ideal for your Maine fall travel and vacation trip planning! At the Swine & Stein Festival Oct. 1 in Gardiner,  you’ll find pork dishes made by regional chefs, the chance to listen to local bands and trying fun activities like the chuck-a-chicken contest. At the Oct. 8 Octoberfest in Belgrade Lakes, you can check out the foliage while taking in a hay ride, arts and crafts for the kids and fall specialties at local restaurants. Harvestfest and Kidsfest , Oct. 15-16 , are a few of the enjoyable events during the month-long York Beach Oktoberfest celebration. Here, you’ll find a corn toss challenge, live music, an ox roast, games and crafts for children, a pumpkin stroll and hay rides!
