The Noank section of Groton, Ct., instantly became a favorite New England destination for us with its beautiful, quiet waterfront and historic old homes on tree-lined streets. It’s a perfect place to take a stroll and enjoy the unspoiled Connecticut coast. While in Noank, check out Carson’s Variety Store for sandwiches, ice cream, Friday night entertainment and “conversation” (as posted on its store sign); and The Fisherman Restaurant and Lounge for superb seafood caught daily and served in a casual waterfront but classy setting. Noank is also the home of the famous Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough, a seasonal seafood shack specializing in lobsters.
Summer is a popular time to visit, but fall is even more ideal as a quiet town turns even more quiet, thus giving one the chance to enjoy some solitude with the scenery in this classic New England village. Noank is also near the famous New England vacation destination of Mystic, Conn.
