There’s Nothing Quite Like A Coastal Sunrise In Maine

Watching a sunrise at Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine.
For many of us, waking up very early is not at the top of the list but the sun rising can change that frame of mind very quickly.

Specifically, a sunrise by the Maine coast brightens the beginning of a day in a most delightful way. The rhythm of the waves, the renewed morning scent of the air and an aura of peace and solitude combine with the rising of the sun reflecting on the water that can never be fully described — only experienced, first-hand.

One morning while staying overnight at the Grand View Inn & Cottages (a great place, by the way) at Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine, I had the good fortune to be awakened by a bathroom call. Yes, many would not call a sprint to the bathroom good fortune but if not for that calling, a more special calling would not have occurred. Sun shone through the window shades and what was on the other side has stayed in mind for a full year — a beautiful sunrise by the beach.

Few were out — just some fellow photographers, as well as early morning walkers and joggers. The sun’s personality changed virtually every second but what you see here seemed to be the peak of the scenery.

Moral of the story: It’s sometimes worth waking up before the crack of dawn. Treasures may await you to start the day off, radiating perhaps unlike any other.
