Carmella's Restaurant, Walpole, MA

Carmella's
brings great home cooking to Walpole, MA

Something feels right the the moment you pull your car into Carmella's parking lot. Perhaps it's the inviting ice cream stand, the Carmella's restaurant sign with the smiley face, a handwritten blackboard menu, an American flag, the "All Day Breakfast" sign, colorful car dealership-type banners with no words, the gigantic, fake ice cream structure, the menu with a Coca Cola sign, the enthusiastic-looking "OPEN" red banner flapping in the wind, and the old, screen door leading into the restaurant.

All those innocent positives led to what we suspected: friendly ownership and staff, a small, home-like dining room and some very good breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. It's kind of like being home away from home, like you are visiting your aunt's house that has lots of decoratives on the front lawn and some good home cooking on the inside.

Omelettes, pancakes, tuna melts, burgers, pasta, lobster rolls, fried fish dinners, and pasta are just a few of the many items available at this friendly South Walpole restaurant. Of course, the ice cream, root beer floats, milkshakes and other sweet desserts are always a plus!

We've placed Carmella's on our local "A" list of restaurants. It's a terrific place to go as an alternative to eating at home -- affordable, welcoming and with a menu of comfort food diverse enough to offer something for everyone.

Carmella's, 2090 Main St., Route 1A, South Walpole, MA. Tel. (508) 668-1824
