sweet, little old ladies working at local bakeries might be diminishing
in today's faster-paced world, but that doesn't mean a less sweet modern-day bakery experience. Fresh Start Kitchen in Walpole, MA, in fact, upgrades the local bakery concept by keeping all those delicious cookies, cakes and other sweets intact, while also offering delicious breakfast and lunch menu items. The result is the best of both culinary worlds, given Fresh Start's commitment to using fresh ingredients. Whether it's fresh-baked breads, bagels, muffins birthday cakes or omelets, sandwiches, and soups, Fresh Start certainly lives up to its name by going the extra culinary mile. We particularly like all the baked goods we've tried so far (the aforementioned), as well as the "bread winner" sandwich, consisting of eggplant, feta, prvolone and roasted red peppers. Also noteworthy are the lemon-garlic grilled chicken sandwich, roast turkey with cranberry and stuffing sandwich, tender and flavorful steak tips, and a fresh Greek salad with a wonderful homemade dressing and ample feta cheese. This is high quality stuff, far beyond the local sub shop offerings on the lunch and dinner end -- and equally as good on the bakery side as those bakeries of yesterday run by sweet little, old ladies. Fresh Start is quite clean with a small dining room and a big, friendly staff to ensure meals are turned out quickly, yet with an eye for detail to the type of food you'd expect in a more expensive, "gourmet" type establishment. On the contrary, Fresh Start seems more appealing to the working class, with the largely middle-class Walpole population -- including retirees and townies -- recognizing this much-needed restaurant/bakery addition to a currently dismal downtown Walpole. Fresh Start is ultimately a great dining/bakery choice when living in, or visiting Norfolk County! Fresh
