SWF: Blonde, blue-eyed, likes really long scarves, will melt before July BETHEL, Maine - Nine years after building the Guinness World Record Tallest Snowman, the town of Bethel is attempting to top its own achievement - with a twist. A team of volunteers recently began constructing the world's tallest SnowWoman on the same site that held the 113-foot 7-inch tall Angus King of the Mountain in 1999. Angus' yet-to-be-named female friend will reach 120 feet at the top of her magenta 50-foot round knit fleece hat. The hat will match her fleece scarf and cover the 1,500 feet of yellow rope that will act as her chin-length blonde hair. She'll have eyelashes made of skis attached to 2-by-4s, blue-painted truck tires for eyes, and a string of red-painted truck tires for lips. A local jeweler will design and build what is being called the world's largest mica pendant to hang from the 24-foot diameter neck of the giantess. And, she will have bracelets of garland around each of her 30-foot spruce tree arms. Builders will use 12 millions pounds of natural and man-made snow to raise the snowwoman, and begin with a base 96-feet in diameter. Construction in downtown Bethel next to the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center is expected to continue through the fourth weekend of February, and it will happen in front of a world-wide audience thanks to a Web cam on the official Internet home of the World's Tallest SnowWoman: www.bethelmainesnowwoman.com. Visitors to the site can get a closer look at the construction site by checking out the SnowWoman Blog. Portland, Maine, radio station 102.9 WBLM is sponsoring a Name the SnowWoman contest. Anyone can suggest a name, but only people age 13 and over can type a name into the entry box at the official SnowWoman Web site. For more information about the SnowWoman build, call the Bethel Area Chamber of Commerce at 800-442-5826.
