Astor's Beechwood Mansion, Newport, RI (photo by Eric H.) Astors' Beechwood Mansion, built in 1851, isn't just another large Newport estate where you can look at empty rooms, as stunning as they may be in their architectural splendor. Astor's Beechwood Mansion, the former 16,400 sq. ft. home of the famed Astor family, has been put to great use -- it's now a living history museum with actors and actresses in costume taking visitors back to Newport's glorious late 19th century Gilded Age days through a guided tour of the premises. What's more, Astor's Beechwood Mansion offers nighttime music and theater performances (Big Band music, Murder Mystery, ballroom dancing, etc.), Christmas tours and weddings and receptions, to name a few. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean (nice backyard!), Astor's Beechwood Mansion is a highly recommended destination as part of your Newport vacation. Personally, we're just happy staring at the rooms and using our imagination of what life was like for wealthy New Yorkers that created this type of utopia in Newport.Related Article: The Best Newport, RI, Travel and Vacation Attractions Find Newport, RI, Lodging at the Lowest Available Rate The All-American, Patriotic Feel of Bristol, RI |
