Moosehead Lake Region, photo by Dana Moos

If a picture tells a thousand words, then a photo of Moosehead Lake communicates a million. With unforgettable scenic mountain ranges and the beautiful lake -- the largest contained within one state east of the Mississippi -- this is the "real deal" when it comes to four-season fun. Hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoing, white water rafting, swimming, skiing, snowboarding -- you name it, Moosehead Lake is an outdoor enthusiast's dream-come-true, and without the annoying overly commercial trappings that mar the innate beauty of other tourist areas. As you can see in this photo, Moosehead Lake is especially pleasing in the fall time, with fall foliage colors that further enhances the already spectacular surroundings.  Oh, by the way, yes, there are plenty of moose in the area -- no surprise, given the name of this region!
