Dock Square gets most of the visitor traffic with its nice mix of shops and restaurants, but the "real" Kennebunkport, Maine resides around the corner on Ocean Ave. Here, you'll experience that a couple of miles of classic rocky Maine coast, waves often crashing against the rocks, some spectacular private oceanfront residential homes, as well as inn and resorts in the form of historic architectural gems. One of the highlights along Ocean Avenue is the huge Bush Compound, home of George H.W. Bush, 41st president of the United States (pictured above).

Most people I know just drive Ocean Avenue, but it's best to find a public parking spot, get out of the car and breathe in the refreshing salty coastal Maine air while walking the area to gain different perspectives on this beautiful stretch of the Atlantic Ocean. The feeling is especially impressive at sunset where the colors of the sky reflecting on the ocean seem to have a different color with every visit.

Missing out on Ocean Avenue would surely have your complete Kennebunkport, Maine, travel experience go out to sea. Here, you'll see there's definitely more to Kennebunkport than shopping, dining and hitting a crowded beach!
