Reader Tips on Budget Travel

Share this New England story on

We received the following excellent money saving travel tips from Shawn, one of our followers on our Twitter NewEnglandInfo page:

“When booking a hotel, try and find the email contact for the GM or the reservations manager at the place you wish to stay at. Ask them to provide you with their best available rate for the date(s) of your stay. I’ve often found you can save a good 10% simply by making a personal request rather than calling the front desk or making your reservation online.

Use sites such as Gasbuddy to calculate the location of the cheapest gas stations along your route. This way you can spend as little money possible when filling up your tank.”

Thanks, Shawn, for these great budget travel suggestions. I know we’re going to give them a try and hope our readers do, too!

Editor’s note: you can find the cheapest prices on gas in New England through GasBuddy here at the Thrifty New England Traveler.
