If You Must Have That Fried Seafood Platter…

Fried seafood is not good for you, but if you must have this type of altered fish opt for the platter at Petey’s Summertime Seafood and Bar in Rye, N.H.

Petey’s turns out a tasty fried seafood platter with a mound of perfectly fried, tender clams, scallops, shrimp and haddock, as well as a heaping serving of fries. Coming in at a little over $25 dollars, this platter was enough to satiate a party of four. That’s a pretty good bargain.

Petey’s is more than fried seafood platters, however, also specializing in New England clam chowder (one of the most full bodied we’ve tasted), lobster, clam bakes and broiled scallops. The location is nice, too, five miles south of the great city of Portsmouth, N.H., and directly across from from the ocean.

With an informal dining room, ocean view bar, upper deck and picnic areas, this is a classic New England summertime seaside seafood shack. Good news: Petey’s Summertime Seafood and Bar, despite its name, is actually open year-round.

While the fried seafood platter is a terrific bargain, we must say that ordering other items at Petey’s can get expensive. I’m sure the other selections here are fine, but in the name of  “cheap eats” dining, we’ll stick with that delicious seafood platter!

Petey’s Summertime Seafood Seafood and Bar is located at 1323 Ocean Blvd, Rye NH. Tel. (603) 433-1937
