Walpole Town Forest in Walpole, Mass. (20 miles southwest of Boston), is one of those true hidden New England travel gems that some local residents don’t even know about. Free and open to the public, you’ll find several forested trails with our favorite being alongside a scenic section of the Neponset River (pictured here). You’ll also come across a wide crossing bridge and waterfall. Many people fish at the Town Forest, but most enjoy walking the isolated, peaceful setting. Especially nice in the fall after the frost (translated no mosquitoes) and with some fine autumn colors, this 150-acre oasis always has us appreciating the “road less taken in New England!”
