We recently featured an article on free and inexpensive museums in the Boston area. One of our readers, Rob Velella, kindly wrote us about another such place, the Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site in Cambridge, Mass. Thanks so much, Rob, for alerting us and our readers to this great-sounding museum! Here’s what Rob wrote:

The Longfellow House-Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site (105 Brattle St. in Cambridge, Mass, just a quick walk from Harvard Square) preserves the home of poet/scholar Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The home previously served as the first official headquarters of the new general George Washington during the early part of the American Revolution. Preserved by the National Park Service, today it is a house museum which is entirely intact to the lifetime of Longfellow and includes many items he collected in honor of Washington, the prior occupant. Admission is by guided tour only, but tours are free. It’s open Wednesdays through Sundays from June through October.
