If you are looking for developed cross country skiing trails in Maine that don’t break the bank, then the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle should keep your budget from icing over.

This beautiful facility, located in unspoiled and frequently pristine Aroostook County, features a 6,500-square-foot lodge, 20 kilometers of cross-country trails and a 30-point biathlon range, operated by the nonprofit Nordic Heritage Sport Club. Its facilities include a separate wax building with 26 wax rooms.

According the the Nordic Heritage Center web site, the trails are free of charge. With early morning to mid-evening trail operation, a lodge that is staffed and with cross country ski rentals available, the Nordic Heritage Center might be far away in northern Maine but close to the heart of a cross country skiing lover!
