Three Maine Travel Destinations Where You Can Become a “Happy Camper”

The Maine Office of Tourism (VisitMaine.com) recently tipped us on some worthy camping destinations in Maine. As we know, camping is generally an affordable travel activity and often a great way to get familiar with the natural settings of a specific area. What better place than Maine with its scenic inland rural and coastal settings? Here are the VisitMaine.com recommendations:

Cutler Coast Public Lands offers only three, primitive walk-in tent sites, but these cliff top sites are among the most dramatic in the state. Each cliff top site is located along the two-mile Coastal Trail, part of one of the longest stretches of undeveloped oceanfront on the East Coast. Watch for passing whales, soaring bald eagles, and local lobstermen pulling up traps.

The Rangeley Lakes region features a great mix of private and state-owned campgrounds, and some campsites that are only accessible by water. The Richardson Lakes and Mooselookmeguntic Lake are known for their paddle-up campsites, while Cupsuptic Lake and Rangeley Lake offer full service campgrounds.

The Allagash River is a popular canoe-camping destination in northern Maine, beautifully situated in the northernmost portion of the north flowing Allagash Wilderness Waterway. Waterway rangers keep spacious campsites in pristine condition and provide helpful camping and paddling tips to visitors.
