Vacation rentals can be offer great value. Get a group of people together, split the cost, cook your own food and often, the price will be lower than a hotel.

We were wondering if there might be a way to knock the price down even more through a business dedicated to listing special deals on vacation rentals. Enter HomeAway, a vacation rental business that dedicates a section of its web site to “best deals.”

HomeAway updates regularly “best deals” on vacation rentals in Connecticut, Maine , Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Some of the prices we have spotted are unbelievably low in prime areas like Acadia National Park, Maine,  Cape Cod, the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and  Stowe, Vt.. Of course, the offerings vary given of what’s available, but you get the picture — there are affordable vacation rentals out there in some of the most popular spots in New England. We also recommend looking at vacation rentals in lesser known communities — sometimes these “hidden gems” are beautiful, classic New England spots that don’t  get a lot of hype but are just as nice as the well-known vacation spots.
