It seems like everywhere you turn in Vermont, restaurants are sourcing food locally from nearby farms. The movement makes sense: it helps the local economy, supports area farmers trying to make a living, and the food often tastes better and is healthier.

There’s this myth that healthier foods don’t taste as good as the processed kind, but that’s simply not the case. The photo above of the burger from the Chelsea Royal Diner in Brattleboro, Vermont  proves just that. Part of the Vermont Fresh Network (connecting Vermont’s food communities), the Chelsea Royal Diner serves these masterpieces, made from local, grass fed beef that results in a burger more delicious than virtually any other I’ve ever had. Even the cheese is sourced locally from the Grafton Village Cheese Company in Grafton, Vermont. We’re not sure about the sourcing of the fries, but that’s OK — something of a guilty pleasure to accompany the great burger. It’s affordable, too, coming in at under $10, making it a Visiting New England on a Budget-approved great budget meal!

The Chelsea Royal Diner is located at 487 Marlboro Rd., Brattleboro VT. Tel.  802-254-8399
