The hotel is clean with nicely appointed rooms, features a really impressive, large indoor pool a cozy \u00a0restaurant called the Port of Call restaurant that serves Maine lobster on the menu (we had some very good clam chowder here).<\/p>\n<p>The value at the Holiday Inn Portland-by-the-Bay is very good for an in town hotel, as we found rates, at this writing, starting at $115 for a room with two double beds.<\/p>\n<p>The location is ideal, just a few minutes from the Old Port &#8212; a charming historic brick and cobblestone district with shops, restaurants and a working waterfront. The Holiday Inn Portland-by-the-Bay is also right around the corner from the emerging &#8220;Arts District&#8221;, including the Portland Museum of Arts, Children&#8217;s Museum, and many art galleries and beautiful historic homes.<\/p>\n<p>These two areas speak volumes to Portland&#8217;s presence as a truly special New England city. It&#8217;s a community of wonderful water views at Casco Bay, beautiful brownstones on tree-lined streets, restaurants with marvelous seafood, historic neighborhoods and commercial areas perfect for walking, and an overall small-town feel within a city setting. There&#8217;s really not a bad part of town, very unusual for a city.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;d definitely stay at the Holiday Inn Portland-by-the-Bay again.
