Have times ever changed. Now with the download of an app on one’s own miniaturized mobile phone, you can get the most updated information on local travel. Whether from home, on the road, in the local coffee shop — or while vacationing on Cape Cod — you can plan a Cape Cod vacation on a device that’s much smaller than the Archer “walkie talkies” we had as kids! \u00a0You have to wonder where this technology is all going in the next few years. If you told me 15 years ago that you could travel plan through a cell phone, I would not have believed it. Back then, the Omnipoint cell phones seemed like the greatest thing since sliced bread, and now they seem as old as, well, me!<\/em><\/p>\n

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce has smartly become involved with “apps” technology — a good thing, given Cape Cod is one of our nation’s most popular vacation destinations. Marci Tyldesley, at Cape Public relations, just tipped us on this valuable trip planning tool. Read on, and enjoy using this app to plan your Cape Cod vacation…<\/em><\/p>\n

Visitors to Cape Cod,\u00a0Martha\u2019s Vineyard\u00a0and\u00a0Nantucket\u00a0now have one more tool in their mobile planning arsenal with the launch of the\u00a0Cape Cod Travel Guide\u00a0Android app by the\u00a0Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. The new app, which is a mobile version of the Chamber\u2019s annual Cape Cod Travel Guide magazine, was launched last summer for iPhone and iPad users. The new Android version was launched this month and users can find it by searching for \u201cCape Cod\u201d in their market.<\/p>\n

The App features a comprehensive Calendar of Events, “Hot Deals” and \u201cSpecial Offers,\u201d and listings to accommodations, museums, attractions, restaurants, transportation and shops on Cape Cod, Martha\u2019s Vineyard and Nantucket.\u00a0 A visitor searching for lodging, for example, can narrow their search by town or by categories such as \u201cwaterfront accommodations\u201d, \u201cbed and breakfast\u201d or \u201cpet friendly\u201d. They could also search the \u201cHot Deals\u201d tab for last minute specials offered by area hotels. Additionally, the App includes maps of the region and links to each town\u2019s\u00a0Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n

“We recognize that visitors are consuming and searching for information in new ways so we\u2019re evolving to make sure Cape Cod is positioned to meet the needs,\u201d said Wendy Northcross, CEO of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. \u201cThe Android\u00a0App is just the most recent tool we\u2019ve rolled out to provide visitors fast, easy information where they want it.\u00a0 And with the unofficial start of summer this weekend, it\u2019s exciting to be able to deliver this level of customer service. It\u2019s good for the visitors and it\u2019s good for our businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
