Editor’s note:<\/strong> last summer, I had the chance to visit the Walpole Farmers Market in Walpole, Mass. One of the better farmers markets I have been to in the Boston area, I was most impressed by the quality and quantities of produce and the friendliness of the local vendors. Located in a town center parking lot in its successful first year of operation last year, the Walpole Farmers Market will be moving this year to the downtown town common (starting Wed., June 15th). I have to say that the Walpole Town Common location will only make the Walpole Farmers Market experience that much better. \u00a0The “village green” with an old-fashioned gazebo surrounded by churches, historic municipal and commercial buildings, mom and pop stores, and beautiful tree-lined Common St., has “New England” written all over the area. \u00a0How nice it will be for Walpole residents– and also also those living in Boston and nearby suburbs — to shop the Walpole Farmers Market every Wednesday within such a pleasing New England setting!<\/p>\n

(WALPOLE, Mass.) – The Walpole Farmers Market opens its 2011 season on Wednesday, June 15 on the Town Common on Main St. (Route 1A) in Walpole Center. \u00a0The Farmers Market will operate weekly on Wednesdays from 2:00 \u2013 6:30 p.m., rain or shine, through October 26th.<\/p>\n

Visitors can expect to find farm fresh produce, cheeses, meats, fish, eggs, baked goods, pastas, honey, jams, herbs, craft items and much more.\u00a0 Enjoy the opportunity to buy fresh produce and locally made foods and gifts directly from area farmers, food producers and crafters.<\/p>\n

To help you plan for shopping at the Market, here are some tips to remember:<\/p>\n

Bring a reusable shopping bag if you can.\u00a0If you forget, not to worry, vendors will have shopping bags.<\/p>\n

Bring cash.<\/p>\n

Take your time browsing to see what is available.\u00a0Talk to the farms about what is in season now and what should be in season next.<\/p>\n

Ask the vendor questions. They are more than happy to share their knowledge and give recipes or cooking tips.<\/p>\n

Experiment and try a new fruit or veggie.<\/p>\n

Bring the kids as it can be fun for them too!<\/p>\n

Properly store your fresh produce and other food items when you get home.<\/p>\n
