{"id":1318,"date":"2011-06-10T14:07:54","date_gmt":"2011-06-10T14:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-cheap-travel\/?p=1318"},"modified":"2011-06-10T14:07:54","modified_gmt":"2011-06-10T14:07:54","slug":"digging-cape-cod-quahog-day-june-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-cheap-travel\/?p=1318","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Digging&#8221; Cape Cod Quahog Day, June 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1319\" aria-labelledby=\"figcaption_attachment_1319\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 150px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-cheap-travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/johnnyquahog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1319 \" title=\"Cape Cod Quahog Day\" src=\"http:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-cheap-travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/johnnyquahog-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Cape Cod Quahog Day\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"figcaption_attachment_1319\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Johnny Quahog and Doug, Cape Cod&#39;s official Quahog (Photo, courtesy of Cape Public Relations)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will hold the\u00a0<strong><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.quahogday.com\/\">Third Annual Cape Cod Quahog Day<\/a>,<\/strong> Tuesday, June 21, 3 p.m., at Aselton Park overlooking Hyannis Harbor in Hyannis, Mass.<\/p>\n<p>Doug, Cape Cod&#8217;s official Quahog (what a great name for a quahog!), will come out of hiding for the official &#8220;Quahog Prognostication.&#8221; He will be escorted by his beefy Quahog Security Team (including Dennis landscaper Chris Lambton, who appeared on ABC\u2019s <em>The Bachelorette<\/em> last year) and led to his perch at Aselton Park where he\u2019ll make his lofty prediction of \u00a0how many weeks of Cape Cod beach weather lie ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen Mitchell Hughes, vice president of tourism and marketing at the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, said that Quahog\u00a0Day serves as a fun way to address the\u00a0all important question &#8212; \u201cHow\u2019s the weather going to be on the Cape this summer?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve had a lot of fun with this event,&#8221; \u00a0Hughes told The Thrifty New England Traveler. &#8220;We came up with the idea three years ago as a way to kick off the summer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hughes said that Doug got off to a rough start in his 2009 debut.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first time around, Doug was a little off &#8212; maybe nervous because of all the press coverage,&#8221; said Hughes. &#8220;He said we&#8217;d get 11 weeks of good beach weather. He was erroneous.
