The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will hold the\u00a0Third Annual Cape Cod Quahog Day<\/a>,<\/strong> Tuesday, June 21, 3 p.m., at Aselton Park overlooking Hyannis Harbor in Hyannis, Mass.<\/p>\n

Doug, Cape Cod’s official Quahog (what a great name for a quahog!), will come out of hiding for the official “Quahog Prognostication.” He will be escorted by his beefy Quahog Security Team (including Dennis landscaper Chris Lambton, who appeared on ABC\u2019s The Bachelorette<\/em> last year) and led to his perch at Aselton Park where he\u2019ll make his lofty prediction of \u00a0how many weeks of Cape Cod beach weather lie ahead.<\/p>\n

Kristen Mitchell Hughes, vice president of tourism and marketing at the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, said that Quahog\u00a0Day serves as a fun way to address the\u00a0all important question — \u201cHow\u2019s the weather going to be on the Cape this summer?”<\/p>\n

“We’ve had a lot of fun with this event,” \u00a0Hughes told The Thrifty New England Traveler. “We came up with the idea three years ago as a way to kick off the summer.”<\/p>\n

Hughes said that Doug got off to a rough start in his 2009 debut.<\/p>\n

“The first time around, Doug was a little off — maybe nervous because of all the press coverage,” said Hughes. “He said we’d get 11 weeks of good beach weather. He was erroneous. It wasn’t one of his shining moments.”<\/p>\n

Last year, however, Doug redeemed himself, improving his report card way beyond \u00a0“C” level from the year before.<\/p>\n

“He predicted 13 weeks of great beach weather… he nailed it,” said Hughes. “He did, though, <\/em>get support from Johnny, the secretary general of the Quahog Republic (and a skilled translator for Doug).”<\/p>\n

New England Cable News weatherman Tim Kelley (a native Cape Codder) will emcee the festivities, and food, drink and musical entertainment will be part of the event. \u00a0Quahog Day will also kick off a week of Quahog-related activities across the Cape, including a stuffed quahog eating contest, special discounts and menu offerings, and more.\u00a0 Details can be seen at\u00a0www.quahogday.com<\/a> and\u00a0www.facebook.com\/visitcapecod<\/a>.<\/p>\n
