Portland Head Light at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth is a shining example of a great Maine lighthouse.<\/p>\n

Dating back to the late 1700s, this beautiful southern coastal Maine lighthouse listed on the National Register of Historic Place is ideally situated along the scenic rocky coastline. Some lighthouses in New England have odd shapes and design, but not Portland Head Light: \u00a0the substantial, full-bodied, solid-as-a-rock look of \u00a0this gem seems like the prototype for what a lighthouse should look like.<\/p>\n

I’ve read that Portland Head Light is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the United State and it’s easy to understand why. I’ll just let the photo here explain that one!<\/p>\n

Owned by the Town of Cape Elizabeth with some components maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, Portland Head Light remains one of the best kept lighthouses I’ve seen in New England.\u00a0In addition to Portland Head Light at Fort Williams Park, you’ll find a museum and gift shop on the premises, as well as a park beach walking trails, a tennis court and playing fields. It’s really a great place to be on a summer day (free admission, too!), and so close to the amazing city of Portland<\/a>!<\/p>\n
