Case in point: The Hammonasset Beach Campground in Madison, Conn. What a gem of a beach: more than two miles of sandy beach, a boardwalk, walking trails and a large campground area with more than 550 camp sites! There are also lifeguards in designated areas, as well as  bathrooms, showers, picnic shelters and concessions.<\/p>\n<p>This 919-acre state park located on Long Island Sound is, by far, Connecticut&#8217;s largest public ocean beach and open through Oct. 9! \u00a0Beach access is free, at this time, during the weekdays with a reasonable fee over the weekend.
