Walden Pond State Reservation in Concord, Mass., is nice any time of the year, but it’s easier to “fall” in love with this idyllic spot during the New England fall foliage season.<\/p>\n

Henry David Thoreau’s former home provides a wonderfully peaceful experience, most notable by taking a 45-minute walk around the placid pond that was formed more than 10,000 years ago by retreating glacier.<\/p>\n

Although most popular in the summer as a swimming destination, Walden Pond, to me, takes on its greatest personality in the fall when a walk around the pond reveals some fine colors during mid-October.<\/p>\n

The best bet to see great colors is from Columbus Day Weekend to perhaps a week later. I’d call Walden Pond State Reservation at (978) 369-3254 to get the latest fall foliage update. \u00a0You never know with fall foliage; some seasons are great, some subpar, but whatever the case, Walden Pond’s beauty is constant.<\/p>\n

Of course, when visiting Walden Pond, don’t make your visit all about leaves. Concord and neighboring Lexington are beautiful New England town, filled with history (where the American Revolution all began) and things to do. Good news, too: you’re also only about 40 minutes to Boston<\/a>, one of America’s greatest cities!<\/p>\n

Walden Pond is located less than a mile from the Route 2 intersection on Route 126 south. Admission is cheap: $8 a car!<\/em><\/p>\n
