Grab the picnic basket and the kids for a Maine lighthouse picnic!<\/p>\n

First, make your way to Maine on I-95.\u00a0 Nubble Lighthouse is only a few miles into southern Maine at the York exit.\u00a0 Drive through the quaint village of York, stopping for more lunch items if needed.\u00a0\u00a0Meander past\u00a0Long Sands Beach on the way to Nubble Light at Sohier Park.\u00a0 At low tide this is a very large beach and you may have to stop for a walk or\u00a0wade into the surf. Bring some quarters, too, just in case, for the parking meters.<\/p>\n

Parking is free at Sohier Park but somewhat limited.\u00a0 The lighthouse is on a very close-by\u00a0island with no direct access. It is always a beautiful sight, so don’t forget the camera.\u00a0\u00a0Sohier Park\u00a0has benches, but no tables.\u00a0 Restrooms with running water are also available when the Gift Shop is open. Set up your picnic on the\u00a0upper rocks or grassy areas.\u00a0 Also, don’t get too close to the ocean or you will get wet for sure.<\/p>\n

Forgot the picnic basket?\u00a0 No\u00a0problem!\u00a0 Fortunately, lobster rolls, fried clams, burgers and ice cream are all available just a few steps away at Fox’s Lobster House from May to October.\u00a0 The kids will talk about this Maine lighthouse picnic picnic for years to come, so don’t be surprised if you have to do it again with the grand kids!<\/p>\n
