We&#8217;d certainly opt for lobster over a hot dog, but sometimes the budget and taste preference of the moment calls for a good, old-fashioned steamed hot dog.<\/p>\n<p>America&#8217;s long-time love for the hot dog can certainly be fully realized at this southern coastal Maine dive on Route 1 where the lines in the summer often result in a 15 to 30 minute wait. Plus, how can you go wrong with a meal that comes in at around $3? That&#8217;s true cheap eats!<\/p>\n<p>The limited dining space inside and picnics tables outside don&#8217;t impede business at all and the service is famous for being pleasantly brusque. That&#8217;s all part of the Flo&#8217;s tradition since 1959 &#8212; no upgrades, extensive employee management trainee programs or modernization needed here!<\/p>\n<p>The last time I had a Flo&#8217;s Hot Dog was at its former Kittery, Maine, location, and the steamed hot dog within a tasty soft bun really satisfied. \u00a0For many, the legendary &#8220;famous secret hot dog relish&#8221; makes the hot dog even that much better. Let&#8217;s be realistic, however: many New England restaurants and road stands turn out an excellent hot dog, equal to or not too far behind the quality of Flo&#8217;s. So, don&#8217;t travel two hours to make a special trip just to Flo&#8217;s &#8212; just go here as part of your southern coastal Maine vacation.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the Flo&#8217;s tradition is ordering a Moxie soft drink to complement the steamed hot dog. Moxie is a locally-made drink, slightly bitter tasting but eternally popular in Maine. There&#8217;s even a Moxie Museum in Union, Maine, dedicated to this slightly weird-tasting concoction!<\/p>\n<p>In summary, Flo&#8217;s certainly cuts the mustard when looking for a satisfying cheap eats experience &#8212; or for those always in search of the best hot dogs.<\/p>\n<p><em>Flo&#8217;s is located at 1359 Route 1 in Cape Neddick, ME.
