With the New England Patriots playing the New York Jets this Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., fans from both sides will be hungry for a first-round playoff victory (we’re hoping it’s the Patriots!). Fans will, no doubt, be hungry for a great meal, too.<\/p>\n

Our top pick for the best “cheap eats” dining spot for lunch and dinner near Gillette Stadium is The Red Wing Diner on Route 1 south in Walpole, Mass. Located just over two miles from Gillette Stadium, The Red Wing scores a touchdown with its generous portions of comfort food in an unpretentious setting. Some favorites include fried clam plate, fried seafood platter, fresh roast carved turkey dinner, pizza and the Sunday special, prime rib. Desserts include delicious homemade pie, our favorite being blueberry. Many meals come in under $12.00, including an excellent lobster roll at $10.95. There’s also a good beer selection!<\/p>\n

The Red Wing really isn’t a diner. The bar is an original 1933 Worcester Dining Car, but the main dining room has a no-frills, almost family-style look with bright lighting, wood-style floors, and formica tables. Waitresses are quick on their feet with a “hello, honey” personality and an opinion or two. \u00a0In business for more than 50 years, The Red Wing is a time-tested roadside gem!<\/p>\n
