So far, this winter has been anemic in the Boston area with very little snow. However, this 2011 winter photo of Common St. in downtown Walpole, Mass., reminds us of how quickly the weather can turn in New England. Initially, it’s so nice to see the pure, white snow lend another layer of New England scenery to a church, a town common and old homes on a tree lined street. For many of us, though, the novelty wears off when repeated shoveling, snow tainted with suburban and urban pollutants, and slippery roads make us wish for the warmer weather of spring. I suppose, that’s OK, as the four seasons in New England give us something to look forward to just as we start to get sick of one season!
