Salem, Mass., is best known for its witch culture, but visitors will also find tremendous appeal at the Essex St. Pedestrian Mall. One of New England’s great downtown shopping areas, Essex St. is loaded with cute little mom and pop shops, restaurants, cafes and attractions like the Peabody Essex Museum and Old Salem Town Hall. The brick walkways, charming historical buildings and commitment to local small businesses help make Salem even that much more special. The photo you see was taken in the spring; please note that in the summer, Essex St. becomes truly alive with street entertainment and vendors, outdoor dining and artists and craftsmen coming to Artists Row to showcase their works. All in all, this part of Salem is certainly worth a visit!
