Long Sands Beach in York Beach, Maine, gets very busy in the summer and rightfully so.  It is one of the longest, most scenic stretches of sandy ocean beach in Maine with places to stay and restaurants right across the street. Additionally, views can be seen across the water of beautiful Nubble Lighthouse. The overall scene is about as “New England” as it gets by the coast.

To achieve true peace and solitude at this popular beach during the tourist season, however, the solution is to wake up very early. Not only will you find those much-desired unobstructed views of the beach but often spectacular sunrises. The brilliant orange colors of the sky combined with the placid nature of the water (at least on this day) and the morning darkness turning yellow sand and the rocky coast to black, is a true sight to behold.

Yes, for many it is a challenge to wake up early but the rewards are significant in the form of Mother Nature painting her magic by the coast.

Simply, wow!
