All I will ever need in Meredith, New Hampshire is a walk on a path along Lake Winnipesaukee. It tells me everything I need to know about the authentic side of inland New England travel.

First, give me views of the mountains and lake to gain sustenance from the beauty of our northeast region…

Grace me with the presence of a walking bridge to not only connect the land but feel a connection to the land…

Grant me stroll along the quaint side of New England for a sense of history, sense of place and  comfort…

Provide me with an imperfect dock to lend perfect perspectives of this beautiful lake…

And remind me of the brave Soldiers who gave all while helping protect our freedoms. It puts things in true perspective.

All this is not to say that some of the most popular destinations in the Meredith, New Hampshire area aren’t at the top of the list. Yes, also give me a fresh turkey dinner at Hart’s Turkey Farm, a wonderful shopping experience at the Marketplace at Mills Falls at the Lake, a stay at Mills Falls at the Lake and an afternoon on the sand at Weirs Beach and I will also be a happy visitor.

But a list often doesn’t incentivize or inspire me the way the free and simple things in life do. There’s just something so strikingly beautiful and memorable about connecting to the mountains, lake, an unassuming walking path and all the peace and solitude that come with it. My preference is just the simple choice of walking to glean the most meaningful travel experience. This can also be accomplished, of course, through boating, fishing or swimming at Lake Winnipesaukee, if possible, away from the crowds!

I don’t mean to sound like Henry David Thoreau here as an isolationist rejecting conventional civilization. On the contrary. It’s all good in a place like Meredith, New Hampshire! I just prioritize first seeing New Hampshire through the lakes and mountains and not the commercial elements contained within that landscape. Those uncomplicated travel memories remain long after a visit.
