Western Ave. at the Stacey Blvd. Waterfront Park in Gloucester, Mass. is looking so much better these days.<\/p>\n

My last walk there was about 15 years ago and the area seemed a little run down. Yesterday, I saw the Avenue expressed in true vibrancy along the half-mile promenade with its colorful flower beds, period lighting and American flags lining this coastal harbor stretch. The famous Fishermen’s Memorial Monument (also known as the “Man at the Wheel statue) that honors fishermen lost at sea looked upgraded and better maintained. Thank goodness for that ode of respect, remembrance and recognition, given the vital, selfless, challenging and dangerous nature of the profession. There’s a power-washed look to the monument and the flowers surrounding the base are beautifully landscaped.<\/p>\n

I am sure the sunny day also had something to do with Western Ave. looking nicer than before but that just helped the cause that much more. People were out enjoying their seaside walks and bench sittings. Many gathered around the flower beds to inspect the beauty created. Flowers are nice, the sea is beautiful and the American flag a national treasure but together they add up to something even more special. That’s why I can’t get Western Ave. at Stacey Blvd. Waterfront Park out of my mind. I can hardly wait to return.<\/p>\n
