If you’re looking for a coastal Maine destination with a quaint, charming downtown, Kennebunkport certainly rises above the tide. Dock Square is the main part of town, and it’s just a great place to visit. Clean and attractive without being sterile, the Dock Square area features colorful, charming old buildings of many different architectural styles that house shops, boutiques, galleries, inns and restaurants (some with waterfront views). It’s not too stuffy and definitely not tacky — the right mix has found its place here. With the Kennebunk River lending a scenic presence, as well as the ocean on Ocean Ave. within walking distance, this is definitely a coastal Maine downtown wonderland. In summary, it’s really the best of both coastal Maine worlds: a nice place to walk with plenty to see and do, and the ocean right at your doorstep!
