The corner of Route 13 and Mason Rd. in Brookline, N.H., offers a mini greatest hits collection of New England icons that look beautiful in the fall: a lighthouse and covered bridge alongside scenic Lake Potanipo.<\/p>\n

On its own, the 169-acre Lake Potanipo, supplies much of the landlocked New England autumn scenery one could ask for with its placid waters, tall pines, sandy beach and colorful trees in the distance. The presence, however, of a small lighthouse standing over small rapids at the shores and a covered bridge perched above vibrant fall leaves and the Nissitissit River across the street makes the whole scene even that much better.<\/p>\n

The lighthouse doesn’t possess the critical function of an ocean lighthouse. The modest, pedestrian-only Nissitissit Covered Bridge comes in at a notch below Vermont’s most coveted covered bridges. None of that matters, however, as the different looks of New England come together beautifully.<\/p>\n

From the sandy beach to the imperfect interior of the covered bridge, the whole scene begs a nice country walk. With added peace, solitude and fresh air, the feeling is wonderful here.<\/p>\n

Many travelers driving through Brookline, N.H. are headed towards Parker’s Maple Barn restaurant<\/a> and Pickity Place<\/a> in Mason, for their hearty meals and rustic New England experiences. Stopping to admire this cozy and quaint corner in Brookline, however, during the fall should be added to the list!<\/p>\n
