The wide waterfall offers a beautifully scenic local destination, wonderfully juxtaposed with the Spaulding Gristmill and hills in the distance.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_799\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-799\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-photo-tour\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/townsend-harbor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-799\" src=\"http:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-photo-tour\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/townsend-harbor.jpg\" alt=\"A beautiful waterfall in Townsend, Massachusetts\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-photo-tour\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/townsend-harbor.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-photo-tour\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/townsend-harbor-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/visitingnewengland.com\/blog-photo-tour\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/townsend-harbor-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-799\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A beautiful waterfall in Townsend, Mass.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here at the Gristmill, grinding stones were once driven by a horizontal wheel powered by the mighty water force. The mill processed corn and grain grown by local farmers until closing in the 1920s. The mill is currently closed to the public while under repair, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.townsendhistoricalsociety.org\/info.html#gristmill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Townsend Historical Society web site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Things of the past often become treasures of the moment, and the waterfall and mill scene in Townsend are no exceptions.
