The village is, in fact, listed on the National Register of Historic Places with more than 100 recognized houses, churches, industrial and marine buildings, and commercial stores.<\/p>\n<p>The building block you see in the lead photo above first became a commercial district in the mid-1800s when wives of sailors opened several stores on the first floor. To this day, the entire block is owned by women small business owners.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-0542617997214413\" data-ad-slot=\"8767959031\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>One of the great walking towns in New England, the brick sidewalks lead to 40-plus shops selling antiques, art, books, clothing, children\u2019s items, antiques, arts and crafts, home goods and furnishings, health and beauty merchandise, jewelry, and outdoor recreation.
