Finding a Magical Christmas Holiday Scene at the Norwood Town
Common in Norwood, Mass.
A festive holiday scene in downtown Norwood

Downtown Norwood, Mass. looks like
something out of a snow globe during the Christmas holiday season.
No, wait, make that like something out of a Currier and Ives scene. On
second thought, perhaps a Norman Rockwell-like setting. On the other
hand, the location could be perfect for a Hallmark movie. Then again, this
festive sight would be ideal on the front cover of a travel magazine or some place Martha Stewart or Oprah really likes. Or,
maybe the feature photo serving as a backdrop for the local TV weather
forecast. Or, one of those Instagram photos that gets 1,500 likes.

Town Hall, gazebo, Christmas tree.
Thinking it all
over, how about all of the above?
Bostonians often travel hours to idyllic destinations in Vermont or New
Hampshire to arrive at scenes like this when, in fact, this kind of
Christmas magic resides barely beyond the Route 128 loop.

A closer look at the Christmas tree.
Interesting note: Although the Norwood Town Common looks like one of
the original town greens dating back to the 1700s, it is actually one
of the newer town commons in "The Bay State". It didn't even
coincide with the incorporation of Norwood in 1872! Rather, the Norwood
Town Common didn't begin to take shape until 1912. The whole parcel
actually came to more complete fruition in the 1920s.
But I digress. The Christmas tree, lights, the gazebo, the historic
buildings, a gentle blanket of snow-- it's all quite remarkable in a
traditional New England kind of way!
