The several miles of winding roads at Ocean Drive, in
Newport, RI, afford the New England traveler some
of the most spectacular, scenic Atlantic Ocean views at the New England
coast. While the drive is simply stunning, we also recommend exploring
the great outdoors here, whether it be some sunning and swimming at
Gooseberry Beach, or fishing, hiking, picnicking at Brenton Point State
Park. As the day winds down on Ocean Drive, you might be lucky enough
to see a spectacular sunset, like the one pictured above. Also
noteworthy is the mid-point of the drive where the Narragansett Bay
meets the Atlantic Ocean. It's one of those "you just had to be there"
scenarios -- the written word cannot fully describe the vast, panoramic
scenic coastal glory. The bottom line is that if you enjoy ocean views,
you'd be hard-pressed to find a better place than Ocean Drive.
Another wonderful aspect about Ocean Drive is that the rest of Newport
extends the travel fun with its other main attractions: the famous
mansion tours, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the 3.5 mile
Cliff Walk with wonderful ocean views the whole way, Easton's Beach and
some of the best local shopping (boutiques, galleries, old-fashioned
gift and clothing shops, etc.) and waterfront seafood dining (try the
Black Pearl at Bannister's Wharf, downtown!) in New England. Learn
