One of my all-time favorite things to do
in Maine is waking up early while staying at the fantastic Grand View Inn and Cottages and walking across the
street to Long Sands Beach to experience a magical sunrise.
Yes, it would be more convenient opening the shade, peeking out the
window, taking a look at the splendid views and then going back to
bed. Walking 50 ft. to the beach from the Inn, however, makes a
big difference in what the human eye sees..

On the right morning (depending upon the weather conditions), the
aptly-named Long Sands Beach affords, as a main course, the most
spectacular, expansive views with a bright orange sky serving as the
yummy, sweet creamsicle dessert in the sky. Looking due east, all you
see are rocks, sand, water and sunrise. There's no need for any more
elements to complete the scene.
This location is clearly not just for
Bird walks on
September makes for a nice time to visit although any month will do
(the Grand View is open from May 1 to Oct. 31, though). At this
time, the sun rises around 6:20 a.m. (not super early!). The summer
crowds are gone so even fewer people walk Long Sands early in the
morning. This allows
for the feeling that you virtually have the whole place to yourself. It
sure makes for a great stroll...

And here's some additional great news: This location is only about an
hour from Boston, Mass. No need to drive a gazillion miles up the Maine
coast to get a true taste of the state's true seaside beauty!
Long Sands Beach is located on Long
Sands Ave. (Route 1A). The Grand View Inn and Cottages is
