TRAVEL RESOURCES

Trying to figure out which companies to book your trip with? Below is a list of the companies that I highly recommend, given their excellent services, great deals, ease of online use and fine reputations. These companies can be used for your New England travel or trip planning anywhere else in the world!

AIRFARE

CheapAir.com
CheapAir's air fare shopping search engine uses a highly sophisticated, patented algorithm that searches the web for the lowest airfare prices. Searching for flights is easy to do through an outstanding navigation system, and the company seems to offer many many flight options through a great number of airlines.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Booking.com
This is the one online hotel booking site I use exclusively. It's extremely easy to use and often there is no need to pay in advance. There are no booking fees ever. The deals are tremendous and the selection vast ranging from campsites to five-star luxury hotels. The descriptions and images also play a huge role in deciding where to book -- it is almost like being there. I love Booking.com probably more than any other travel booking site online and can't say enough good things about them.

HomeAway/VacationRentals.com
If you are looking for a vacation rental, HomeAway has more than two million of them! But the experience is never overwhelming: Just search for your specific destination and up comes an impressive list of vacation rentals. From there, the booking process is easy. Vacation rentals are the way to go if you are looking for more spacious surroundings and often less than the price of hotel accommodations. HomeAway is like the white castle of vacation rentals where you can find your own white castle!

Outdoorsy RV Rentals
What a brilliant idea -- renting an RV! This is the largest RV rental marketplace on the web offering Vintage Airstreams, toy haulers, fifth wheelers, Class A, B and C of RVs, as well as a vast variety of trailers and motor homes.  This is such a nice way to start your outdoor travel!

Tentrr
Tentrr is kind of like an Airbnb for camper by allowing campers to find and book campsites with private landowners who want to share their land. Brilliant concept! This is another game-changer in the world of camping with the opportunity for you to book at locations you might have not known about otherwise.

TOUR AND SIGHTSEEING COMPANIES

Intrepid Travel
Intrepid Group offers adventure travel experiences for every style, budget, age and appetite with more than 1,600 itineraries on every continent. Nuff said, what a fantastic trip planning resource!

CityPASS.com
Savings and convenience are the main draws to CityPass by offering admission to famous and popular attractions in popular destinations. The tickets are priced up to 50% less than the combined regular price of admissions. We and friends on a tight budget have used this valuable service in the Boston area and found it as an invaluable tool as a means to access world-class attractions that cost-wise might have otherwise been off limits.

CAR RENTAL

Hertz
Hertz is a household name in the car rental industry, having been in business for 90-plus years! They also keep evolving to meet customer needs whether for leisure or business travel offering the latest luxury, sports and hybrid vehicles. My personal experienced with car rentals companies is limited but Hertz is the only company that offered me a flawless overall experience starting with excellent customer service.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Aardvark Travel Health Insurance
Aardvark Compare Travel Insurance Marketplace offers a valuable service, allowing you to compare and purchase the best Travel Insurance from all major providers. It's really a great alternative to the time-consuming task of visiting each of these carriers separately! Your trip insurance quote includes the insurance carrier, their plans, and the cost of travel insurance. You will see within the trip insurance quotation each and every carrier’s A.M. Best Rating. Your policy is issued immediately upon purchase.
For many, travel insurance is not included a part of trip planning but really should be considered as a way to protect yourself from potential financial loss.

TRAVEL GEAR

Columbia Sportswear
I am a big believer in Columbia Sportswear with many purchases still in great shape after many years of New England travel through all weather conditions and activities. Additionally, I find the pricing to be fair -- not always the case in an industry with companies that charge crazy prices for, more or less, an image or a status symbol. Columbia, on the other hand, just keeps on humbly turning out great clothing without the huge fanfare. This is my first choice for durable, updated apparel, footwear, accessories and equipment for outdoor enthusiasts.

Darn Tough Vermont
It's nice to see outdoor apparel with a New England name! Darn Tough Vermont goes far beyond that name, however, offering high quality wool socks that fit well and last a really long time (guaranteed for life, actually). Perfect for hikes and other athletic endeavors!
