Free and open to the public, the Butterfly Garden features beautiful plantings, developed walkways and, on our last visit, plenty of butterflies. As a project of the Walpole Women’s Club and the Junior Woman’s Club of Walpole, lots of hard work went into this making this southwest suburban Boston destination a fantastic attraction for all ages.
In addition to the Butterfly Garden, we recommend exploring the rest of Adams Farm. With 365 acres — run by the Friends of Adams Farm, a group of area residents — Adams Farm is a great place for hiking, picnics, nature photography, bird watching, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and sledding and as a non-motorized bike trail. The fall foliage season at Adams is splendid with lots of colors — highly recommended around mid to late October!
We especially love the scenic, wooded trails going off in different directions. The Friends of Adams Farm also raised over $100K a few years back to create a beautiful red barn and pavillion. Not only is it a rural visual delight, but also a relaxing, scenic place to have a picnic — the open fields, distant farms and woods make for a scene that will make you wonder if you are in a Boston suburb.
