Aside from Joan’s Beach and Gift being located in one of my all-time favorite vacation destinations — York Beach, Maine — I enjoy this store immensely for carrying a nice mix of regional gifts and clothing that avoid the rip-off prices of so many tourist gift shops.

We’ve bought spring jackets for around $20, t-shirts well under $10, sweatshirts for not much more, and lighthouse lamps for under $20. You’ll also find a nice variety of soaps, candles, home furnishings, novelty jewelry, toys and sweets here — many with Maine themes.  Additionally, the tacky, risque slogans that are often found on “vacation” t-shirts take a back seat here. So it’s safe to bring your grandmother to Joan’s, as well as school age kids.

One other nice aspect of Joan’s Beach and Gift is that the owners are exceptionally pleasant and the staff is well chosen. It just makes the shopping experience that much better.

Of course, Joan’s Beach and Gift is just one small part — but a great one, at that — of the overall fun of York Beach,

Maine. For more info on this southern coastal Maine destination, check out our “Best of York Beach, Maine,” travel article.
