If you’re looking for an alternative way to take in the fall foliage colors in Maine, how about a rail bike excursion along the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railway?
VisitMaine.com writes us that rail bikes are four-wheeled open air cars with two or four seats that ride on a railway with pedal power. At the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railway you travel on a restored railway between Knox and Thorndike through a spruce forest, ponds, a swamp and rolling fields.
Railway staff lead the three hour trips, taking place through October (by appointment only). It’s cheap, too: at this writing, only $10 for adults, $5 for children. We recommend checking out the Belfast Railway and Moosehead Lake Railway web site for full details.
