With the New England fall season not too far away, apple festivals will be happening all over the six-state region. These events are always fun, have a community feel, will get you in the fall spirit and generally won’t break the bank. We recently received from our neighbors at VisitMaine.com a sampling of some apple festivals going on in the state of Maine:

Hot apple fritters are a crowd favorite at the Cornish Apple Festival happening Sept. 25. Enjoy specials at local shops, entertainment at Thompson Park, a 5K road race, local apples and cider.

Monmouth’s AppleFest is Sept. 25 at the Monmouth Museum, with wagon rides, activities for children, and anApple Pie Café. The Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum Apple Festival takes place Oct. 2 at the Episcopal Church on Main Street in Rangeley. There’s a beef stew luncheon, local crafts, a bake sale, music, cider pressing and chain saw carving demonstrations.

Great Maine Apple Day happens Oct. 23 at the Common Ground Education Center in Unity. See cider pressing, attend workshops and talks, see and taste heirloom apples, walk through the Maine Heritage Orchard, and purchase apples, pies and cider.
