The strawberry picking is “berry” good, at this writing, at Jane and Paul’s Farm in Norfolk, Mass.
This mom and pop farm, located on the appropriately named Fruit St., about 30 miles southwest of Boston, has a surprisingly high number of strawberry plants within several rows. You feel like your somewhere in rural Upstate New York here rather than a Boston suburb, given the expansive, scenic farm land and a remote, tucked away location.
In addition to plenty of strawberries, the quality of the fruit is excellent, too — pretty much untouched by bugs and with many perfectly formed and textured berries in the field. Of course, Mother Nature makes all this “subject to change” as the window for strawberry picking is limited, so we’d recommend you call ahead at (508) 528- 0812 to get the latest berry status.
Jane and Paul’s also has, at this writing, a limited supply of fresh picked vegetables at its farm stand. Typically, the inventory grows significantly during the summer. They also sell local eggs, honey, breads and pies, and many plants. There’s also a great, little animal area with rabbits, goats and chickens.
After the strawberry picking season, get ready for blueberries. We’ll be writing about this “superfruit” and the opportunity to pick very soon!
Jane and Paul’s Farm is located at 33 Fruit St.
