The Maine Office of Tourism just sent us a message that the 4th Annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day will take place Sept. 15th, 2012. This is a great chance to visit the many beautiful Maine lighthouses that grace the state’s coast, islands and rivers. Most lighthouses will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for guided or self-guided tours of keeper’s houses and light towers. This is a rain or shine event!
The largest event of this kind in the United States, Maine Open Lighthouse Day is coordinated by the U.S. Coast Guard, in partnership with the Maine Office of Tourism and the American Lighthouse Foundation. To keep up to date on this special day — including visitor hours, fees, activities and transportation to each participating lighthouse — we recommend logging onto the Maine Open Lighthouse Day section at VisitMaine.com.
