A few weeks ago, we strolled The Newport Cliff Walk in Newport, R.I. As usual, we loved the scenic oceanside walk.
It’s easy to understand why. TheĀ 3.5 mile path affords spectacular coastal scenery from high above…
The up close views of Newport mansions and the upscale Chanler at Cliff Walk inn showcase the architectural magnificence of “The City by the Sea”…
And the presence of Easton’s Beach at the beginning of the Cliff Walk suggests an extended stay to this beautiful section of Newport…
Unlike previous times of visiting the Newport Cliff Walk, however, we could also hardly wait to leave.
During this historic time when the Coronavirus pandemic has necessitated social distancing, quite the opposite happened on this day at the Newport Cliff Walk. Many people chose not to wear masks. Additionally, too many people completely ignored the six-foot distance guidance set forth by state and federal officials.
They barreled through the Cliff Walk without any consideration to those walking from the opposite direction, Apparently, the whole path belonged to them. We even got bumped a few times. It was like these visitors were oblivious to those around them — the ultimate expression of lack of consideration.
This wasn’t so much about the Newport Cliff Walk being overcrowded. Rather, it was about a moderate crowd spoiling it for everyone else. It was like they had no clue that one of the most dangerous viruses in history even existed. Unbelievable.
The Solution: Take a Virtual Tour Of The Newport Cliff Walk from Home
At this writing, the Newport Cliff Walk remains open to the public but for those who would rather err on the side of caution, you can take a virtual tour through a fabulous video created by SmallWorldOdyssey. Sure, it’s not the same as actually walking the Newport Cliff Walk but it’s pretty much the next best thing. If I was capturing the Newport Cliff Walk through video, this is exactly the way I would have done it, too.
Nice job, SmallWorldOdyssey!
Enjoy the virtual tour and let’s hope for a return soon to actually visiting the Newport Cliff Walk. Let’s hope, also, for more considerate people to share with others the Newport Cliff Walk next time. It’s simply one of the best oceanside walks in New England!
