Anyone who loves lobster rolls has surely come across the typical version: lobster meat tossed with mayonnaise within a bun. The Coast Guard House in Narragansett, R.I., however, serves a variation of this New England food staple that lobster fans should definitely check out.
The Coast Guard House’s wonderfully different lobster roll infuses fresh herbs and citrus aioli along with lettuce on a buttered brioche roll. This combination of herbs and aioli lends a fantastic flavor to the overflowing serving of lobster meat. As a traditional lobster roll lover myself, I was initially skeptical of the Coast Guard’s offering, thinking it might be at the top of the Greatest Pretentious Meals of All Time list. One bite, however, and that quickly changed my mind. Absolutely delicious!
Today, it seems like virtually every restaurant in New England seems to be serving lobster rolls. Some are good, some are downright horrible. That so many restaurants are now offering lobster rolls waters down the lobster roll scene in New England as it is hard to know who serves the premium kind.
Count the Coast Guard House as one of the best in New England in creating lobster rolls! They just do it a little differently and that’s a good thing.
Oh, and one more thing: This full-service seafood restaurant has some of the best coastal views of any eatery in southern New England.
Coast Guard House Restaurant is located at 40 Ocean Rd., Narragansett, RI. Tel. 401-789-0700.
