THIRSTY SCHOLAR PUB, SOMERVILLE MA

I dined at the Thirsty Scholar Pub once and was impressed by its low-key, friendly atmosphere where the food is cheap, the beer menu impressive, and the conversations range from Harvard-intellect to working class. It's an appealing mix and not intrusive the way many pubs of this ilk can be with their loud bands, rowdy crowds, higher prices and spotty service. Although pub food reigns with fish and chips, bangers and mash, steak tips, burgers and Shepherd's pie, the Thirsty Scholar also goes a little off the beaten path by serving serves up Greek salads, mussels, turkey and guacamole paninis. and chicken cordon blue. What a great, little spot near Harvard University!
