I recently drove down Common St. in Walpole, Mass., and just had to stop the car to take in this absolutely beautiful traditional New England scene.  The church with tall white steeple, old stone water fountain, period streetlights, classic New England town common with a blanket of snow, and white sticking to the trees and bushes created this amazing Currier and Ives-like scene.

New England winters can be hard to take, but instant memories like this more than make up for the cold temperatures, gray skies and snow that eventually outstay its welcome.  Here, the sum trumps the parts, and that is part of the fabric that can make a New England winter so special.
